No matter how experienced you are fly fishing the high country or the East Coast, or fishing the Texas Coast with conventional tackle, there are few thrills in the angling world that can compare to the sight of tailing reds in a glass-smooth remote back lake. The challenge of stalking close and making a clean presentation rivals any fly fishing situation. And after the take, you better hang on for the fight of your life, as these flats and lakes hold Texas redfish up to 32” and 12 pounds, and they don't give up easily.

Your fly fishing experience begins with breakfast before you meet your guide. You'll be fishing with an experienced local guide who knows the maze of back lakes and the numerous shallow flats like the back of his or her hand. Only two fishermen are assigned to each boat, and fishing can be from the bow of a poled flats boat, taking turns casting, or wading the shallow waters, stalking the reds and mature speckled trout that frequent these areas. Arrangements for only one angler per boat can be made with advance notification; additional charges will apply.

What to Bring:

A 6-8 weight saltwater rod, with large arbor reel holding a floating weight-forward line and 200 yards of backing. Our most popular patterns are closures, seaducers, deceivers, poppers, bend-backs and some local favorites, mostly in natural, red, orange, pink and chartreuse, sizes 2-6. The Lodge has Orvis™ equipment for your use, and we have a large assortment of flies in the pro-shop. This is all sight casting, so a good pair of polarized sunglasses is a must. We also recommend tropical fishing wear and good flats-style wading boots.
